Groundbreaking ceremony for Kuwait Optical Cable FactoryOn January 30, 2023 , Taihan announced that it had held an groundbreaking ceremony for "Taihan Kuwait," an optical cable manufacturing factory located in Kuwait on January 29, 2023. Taihan Kuwait is a joint venture between Taihan and Rank, a local construction and trading company, and is the first optical cable manufacturing entity in Kuwait. The Taihan Kuwait factory will be constructed on a 5,000 m2 (1.23 acre) site within the Mina Abdulla Industrial Area, situated in the southeastern part of Kuwait City. The factory design has been approved, and permits for initiating construction and placing major equipment orders have been secured. It is anticipated that the factory will be fully operational and generating revenue by the second half of this year. Taihan aims to capture the Kuwait optical cable market and actively respond to the increasing demand resulting from infrastructure expansion. Additionally, by leveraging its business network that has supplied cables throughout the Middle East for over 50 years, the company plans to extend its reach to neighboring GCC (Gulf Cooperation Council) countries such as Saudi Arabia and Qatar.

Full-scale start-up of optical cable businessAfter being acquired by Hoban Group, Taihan chose the optical cable business as its first investment. To enable mass production within the first half of next year, Taihan plans to build optical cable production plants in Dangjin, Chungcheongnam-do, Korea, and Kuwait, and place an order for facilities. Taihan Kuwait, Kuwait's only optical cable production corporation, is also speeding up the construction of facilities. The plant site is already secured in Kuwait City's Mina Abdullah Industrial Complex, and Taihan plans to start plant construction and rapidly order facilities within the third quarter in order to release prototypes in the first half of next year.

Taihan establishes a joint venture to catch the fiber optic cable market in KuwaitTaihan, a South Korean leading provider of cable and wire, takes the steps to preoccupy in the Kuwait fiber optic cable market. On the 5th, Taihan announced that the company would establish a joint venture in Kuwait for the production of fiber optic cables. It will be the first fiber optic cable production subsidiary in Kuwait, and local companies including Rank General Trading and Contracting Company will participate in the joint investment. Taihan has been discussing the joint venture establishment process with the Kuwait government agency, KDIPA (Kuwait Direct Investment Promotion Authority). In the morning on the 5th, Taihan entered into a full-fledged business by signing a contract with a partner company to establish a joint venture. The joint venture plans to build facilities in Mina Abdullah Industrial Area located in the southeast of Kuwait City within the first half of next year; and achieve sales in the second half of the year. As fiber optic cables transmit large amounts of data quickly and securely, demand continues to increase over the world in line with the fourth industrial revolution and 5G infrastructure expansion based on IoT and AI. Kuwait has imported all of its fiber optic cables. Taihan is planning to preoccupy the Kuwait fiber optic cable market with the quality and price competitiveness through local production. The company is also expected to expand its presence to GCC countries in the Middle East, taking advantage of the network, which has been built on long-standing trust, and the tariff-free advantages in the Middle East. An officer from Taihan said, “As 'New Kuwait 2035' is in full swing, the fiber optic cable business will continue to grow rapidly supported by favorable issues such as 5G infrastructure and Smart City construction. The establishment of this corporation is a valuable achievement of the ‘Korea-Kuwait Business Partnership’ between KOTRA and KDIPA in May in commemoration of the 40th anniversary of bilateral diplomatic relations.” Once the joint venture is established in Kuwait, Taihan will have six production bases over the world, including Dangjin cable plant, Dangjin cable accessory plant in South Korea, the HV cable plant in Vietnam, the MV/LV cable plant in South Africa, and the HV cable accessory plant in Saudi Arabia. In particular, Taihan has been able to expand its influence in the market by establishing a second production subsidiary in the Middle East with high growth potential. Meanwhile, since its first entry into Kuwait in the early 2000s, Taihan has successfully contributed to the construction of the national power grid by successfully completing about 30 extra-high voltage cable projects. In June this year, the company proved its competitiveness by obtaining the construction order of Al Mutlaa City underground power grid for Kuwait at KRW 91 billion.

Ltd. group which specializes in fiber-optic communication cablesrecorded earning surprises as sales for the first half of the year doubled on a year-on-year basis, and operating profit sharply increased 5 times. According tothe public disclosure of report on Taihan Fiberoptics Co., Ltd. on the 14th of the month, sales for the first half of the year were KRW 60.8 billion and increasedby 108% in comparison with KRW 29.3 billion for a corresponding period last year, and operating profits sharply increased by a whopping 404% from KRW 1.5billion to KRW 7.6 billion. Taihan Fiberoptics Co., Ltd. officials said, “It was predicted that business performance has more improved in the future because global demand for optical fiberand fiber-optic cables was shown to increase, and it is planned to finish its restructuring division where business performance is not sufficient, within the year.”
